Day 4 in Abnoub

At the end of our third day of teaching, we all have the largest smiles on our faces and so many touching experiences which make all the heat exhaustion and tiredness seem well worth it. From day 1, Anba Lukas has taken so much care of us, given us the royal treatment and crowned us honorary Se3ayda. Our every need is being met by the wonderful sisters and Uncle Sarwat, our host.

The spirit of enthusiasm and love of learning is apparent in all the children, however, their way of expressing it is certainly different. They range from innocent little angels to in-your-face troublemakers. At the end of a teaching day, the six once-enthusiastic, fired-up volunteers are barely dragging their dehydrated bodies home, yet somehow still anticipating the next day of fun surprises.

If there's one thing we've learnt, it's the amazing contentment with the extremely simple lives these children lead. Yet they continually strive to find ways around the limited opportunities in order to achieve.

One bottle of water, 2 pounds
Mobile phone credit, 10 pounds
Just one extra chair in the classroom......PRICELESS
